When operations depend on organized, weather-resistant storage, an aluminum cab rack from Merritt Aluminum Products delivers legendary toughness without the weight penalty. Below is a quick walk-through you can follow to spec—and buy—the right rack the first time.
Step 1 – Pick the Base Unit That Fits the Job
Merritt builds six heavy-duty “base units.” Once you choose the frame that best suits the equipment, every other decision flows from there:
Base unit | Why choose it? | Image |
---|---|---|
Dyna-Light | Lightweight Dyna-Tube extrusion, our most basic, all-purpose and lowest-cost rack. | ![]() |
Diamond Back | 45-degree corners cut drag and keep fuel costs down—great for aero-sensitive fleets. | ![]() |
Dyna-Drom | Integrated drom deck (30″–96″) rated at 1,000 lb per linear foot—perfect when you need load-carrying space behind the cab. | ![]() |
Dyna-Light w/ Enclosure | Three-door, sealed enclosure keeps tools and tarps secure and out of the elements. | ![]() |
Cabinet Cab Rack | Full-width cabinet with shelves and chain hangers, mounts closer to the cab to save frame space. Roadside and/or curbside 24″x18″ side access doors option available. | ![]() |
Northern-Light | Factory-installed 3-door enclosure, LED lighting, and unique foot that lets the rack mount 5″ closer to the cab. | ![]() |
Tip: If trailer swing clearance is critical, add the Short-Foot option—compatible with most base units.
Step 2 – Select a Window (or None)
Non-enclosure models can be ordered with one of three rear-view options:
- No window – maximum wall strength and cargo security.
- Jail-Bar window – rugged steel bars for visibility without sacrificing strength.
- EZ-View machined or full window – the widest sight-line for day-cab operations.

Step 3 – Add the Productivity Options
Merritt’s wide variety of integral utilities, storage options, and stand-alone options let you build a rack that matches route realities instead of “making do” with a cookie-cutter rack. Popular add-ons include:
Function | Popular options (examples) |
---|---|
Storage & organization | Chain racks, base or full-width trays, tuck-away tool boxes, side-pack chain-tray combo |
Lighting & electrical | Top-mount light-bar brackets, load-light brackets, sliding or fixed beacon brackets |
Security & Compliance | Oversize-load sign mount, chock-block holder, cone holder, grab handles |
Air & hydraulics | Hose-hanger rod assembly, between-the-foot brackets for extra accessories |
Because not every option fits every base unit, confirm part compatibility with sales before you finalize the build sheet.
Step 4 – Place the Order
- Gather specs – Choose your desired cab rack height and width from our standard offerings and let us know which options you need.
- Contact Merritt or your preferred dealer – call 800-525-0107 or use the dealer-locator QR code in the catalog. A sales engineer will verify fitment and generate part numbers.
- Confirm the mounting kit – every cab rack must be installed with an approved Merritt mounting kit (U-bolt or drill-through, depending on frame depth). Our sales team will ensure you have the right mounting kit for your rack.
- Lead-time & shipping – with four U.S. warehouses, most standard configurations ship within days; custom builds vary.
